~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sneak Peek Inside...
Lots of unexpected things had happened in my life. When Joel walked out on me after ten years of marriage that was unexpected. When my grandfather died a few months later that was unexpected, too. It seemed like all the unexpected things in my life weren't the good kind. Until now.
            The game moved slowly. Painfully so. Then there were extra innings. I wanted to pound my head on the railing. The only real bright spots were when Clay ran out to take left field. I sat on the edge of my seat and watched his long easy stride. Did he really ask me out? I asked myself again and again. Twice during the game he'd run over to the stands on his way to the dugout and give me the ball he had just caught. The first time he leaned forward and whispered in my ear, "I can't wait to see you later." The second time, he handed me the ball and playfully whined like a little kid, "When is this game going to be o-o-o-ver?"
            I was thinking the same thing. That's when Sam chimed in again, "There's no way he's twenty-five. No way." I rolled my eyes and sat down. It looked like Sam was falling into one of his melancholy moods, the kind that started hitting him out of the blue after his wife passed away. But even that couldn't ruin my excitement.
            Finally, the game ended. By that time, I didn't care about the final score or who won. I hurriedly said goodbye to Sam and jogged my way up the stairs, dodged a bunch of people, and jumped over a few seats to get to the stadium exit.
@GoddessFish Book Blast - A Perfect Catch by Anna Sugden
He's the perfect catch…for now!
When it comes to romance, Tracy Hayden is not looking for a rematch. She's had epic passion—and problems!—with professional hockey player Ike Jelinek. Brilliant on skates and magic in bed, his too-traditional-for-her views were like a bucket of ice water on their affair.
Then an injury takes Ike out of the game, and everything changes. Suddenly he needs her services-providing business—even though he once claimed it was their biggest problem. Tracy's determined to be professional, despite the sizzling attraction between them that won't go away. Maybe they need a second fling to fix that!
A Sneak Peek Inside
“Why does it take so long to have a baby?”
At her niece’s question, Tracy Hayden looked up from the stack of invoices she was logging into her business’s accounting system.
She smiled at Emily, who was playing a game on the other home-office computer. “They don’t have bar codes on their bums, so you can’t just pick them up at a grocery store.”
Tracy’s sister, Maggie, had gone to the hospital early that morning, when her water had broken. The latest update from Maggie’s anxious husband, Jake, at 5:00 p.m., had been that all was progressing well, if a bit slowly.
Now, at seven-thirty, ten-year-old Emily’s excitement was stretched thin by the lack of action.
“Very funny, Auntie Tracy.” The soon-to-be older sister rolled her eyes. “Do you think Mummy’s having a girl or a boy?”
“Hmm.” Tracy pretended to consider the question seriously. “I have a feeling the sproglet is a boy.”
Her niece leaned forward eagerly. “Why?”
Tracy lowered her voice conspiratorially. “Your mum put sugar in her cup of tea yesterday. They say you need extra sweetness if you’re having a boy.”
Emily’s eyes widened. “She also ate a whole bar of Cadbury’s chocolate from her stash.”
“Aha.” Tracy snapped her fingers. “That settles it.”
“A baby brother would be okay,” Emily mused. “He wouldn’t want any of my things. Plus he’ll like sports. I could teach him to skate and play hockey.”
Tracy clipped the invoices together, then slipped them into a folder marked November Bills. She’d allocate them to the appropriate accounts tomorrow. “That would be nice.”
“Maybe he’ll even get to play on the Ice Cats like Daddy Jake.”
Jake “Bad Boy” Badoletti was a star defenseman for the local professional hockey team, the New Jersey Ice Cats. He and Maggie had gotten together after his transfer from Chicago a few years ago, when Maggie had helped him find a place to live. Though she’d been wary of falling for another pro athlete after escaping an abusive marriage to Emily’s father—an English Premier League soccer player—Jake had eventually won the hearts of both mother and daughter. As well as being an avid fan of her stepfather’s team, Emily had also become a good mites’ hockey player.
The child pouted. “It’s not fair that girls can’t play for the Ice Cats.”
“You never know. Maybe you’ll be the second woman to play in the NHL.”
“But Manon Rhéaume was a goaltender.” Em wrinkled her nose. “I want to be a forward and score lots of goals.”
Naturally. Her niece was all about action.
The phone rang, startling them both.
Tracy’s heart leaped into her throat as she saw Jake’s number. She snatched up the receiver. “Is everything okay?”
“Yeah.” He sounded a little befuddled. “We have a boy. Eight pounds, six ounces. Mom and son both doing well. Dad’s not sure he ever wants to go through that again.”
“Isn’t that supposed to be Maggie’s line?” Tracy said drily.
“She had an epidural. I did the whole thing without anesthetic.”
She laughed. “A tough guy like you can’t handle childbirth. I’m shocked.”
“I can’t believe, having survived it once with Emily, she’d be willing to do it again.” He paused and Tracy could almost feel his shudder down the phone. “Maggie’s one tough cookie.”
“She certainly is.”
Despite what she’d been through, Maggie had not only managed to make a fresh start in the US, but she’d also embraced marriage again.
Something Tracy couldn’t do after her own disastrous experience. That mess wasn’t something she wanted to think about. Not when there was a new life to celebrate. “So, are you up for visitors?”
“Sure. Whenever you can get here. I’ll call my parents next and get them to pass the news to everyone else.”
After she’d hung up, Tracy turned to Emily. “A boy,” she said smugly.
“You rock, Auntie Tracy.” Emily reached across the back-to-back desks to fist-bump her. “When can we go to see him?”
“Right now.” Tracy saved her files, then switched off her computer and stood. “Get your coat and we’ll head over.”
Em dashed out of the office. A moment later, she stuck her head back around the door. “Don’t forget the teddy bear.”
“I won’t. He’s already in the gift bag by the front door.”
The drive to the hospital passed quickly, with Emily chattering like a magpie about her new sibling. As they walked across the parking lot toward the hospital entrance, Emily squealed and darted toward a tall dark-haired man getting out of a black Mercedes SUV.
“Uncle Ike!”
Tracy’s pulse hitched at the familiar figure of Ice Cats goaltender Eisenhower “Ike” Jelinek.
@GoddessFish VBT - Classic Fairy Tales with Modern Heroines.Guest Post by Emelle Gamble: author of December Wedding.
Today here at Beyond My Writing Space we're talking fairy tales. I've been swept up in Frozen Fever ever since I saw the Let It Go teaser on Youtube long before the film was released at the cinema. So I asked Emelle Gamble, author of December Wedding, "Which fairytale would you most like to step into and why?" and I absolutely love her answer!
Cinderella is the ultimate fairy tale for me…
People who thwart your dreams and deny you what you deserve, a handsome prince who sees you from across the room and knows you are his one and only, and a good fairy to grant your fondest wish! And good clothes! What could be better?
However much I love this fairy tale, I’ve often thought that Cinderella is a bit old-fashioned. She does have to be rescued, and it takes a miracle to get what she wants. A friend is working on a more pro-active, futuristic version of this character, who relies more on hard work, courage and never giving up to win her Prince.
That’s probably what we modern readers want in a heroine, pluck and grit instead of glass slippers…but still, wouldn’t we all love having a fairy godmother for just one night?
Readers, if you did have one wish, what would it be? If it was me, a certain Mrs. George Clooney might find her hubby missing for the evening…
A December Wedding ... The Deets
Molly Harper is a movie star who fans think ‘has it all’. Cruz Morales is Molly’s true love, and he hates the media intrusions into their life. Molly and Cruz are going to have a baby. And throw a secret wedding for her brother Harry. What could go wrong? Read DECEMBER WEDDING, the sequel to DUETS and MOLLY HARPER, and find out if there really is a happy ever after for Molly and Cruz.
A Sneak Peek inside
Molly Harper lay beside Cruz Morales in the darkened bedroom, finally drowsy as the familiar night sounds floated in on the Santa Barbara breezes. She was on her second set of counting backwards from 100 to fall asleep, forty-two, forty-one…
“Will you marry me, Molly?” Cruz asked, his voice husky and close.
“No.” She’d said no to him a hundred times the last year. He told her last Christmas Eve he was going to ask her the last thing every night for a year before he’d give up. Saying no had been easy. Though meaning it was getting a little more difficult.
“Why not?”
“You know why not. I love you too much to subject you to a wedding.”
Cruz sighed. “Lame reason, chica. No one I know would think that’s a good reason.”
“They would if they remembered I’m an actress whose life attracts the press like a tub of honey attracts bees. And bees sting. You know what a zoo our wedding would turn out to be.”
“Not if we got married at the courthouse in Taos, or at your home there. People can get hitched the same day they get the license in New Mexico. I checked. We could keep it a secret.”
“A secret?  You know that’s impossible. Someone at the courthouse would tell their friend, who would call the newspaper or People Magazine or tweet it to thirty thousand of their closest friends.”
“Are you sure we’re still interesting to other people? I think the gossip about us has cooled down. People seem more interested in royal babies and the Jolie-Pitt clan now.”
“That’s true. There were only two camera crews outside the restaurant where we ate last Friday.” Molly’s brain reran a few snippets of the last two years, all recorded and available on the internet. Cruz struggling to recover from the motorcycle accident that nearly killed him. Her movie star husband leaving her for another woman. Her ex and the other woman having a baby.
Mother’s death.
All events which were played out on the front page of newspapers and websites around the world.
“Please? I’ll put a ring on it tomorrow if you say yes.”
Molly took a rattling breath. Tonight’s discussion was quite a bit more protracted than the three hundred plus nights before. “No, thank you. I don’t need you to do anything more to prove you love me.”
In the midnight shadows, his generous mouth softened against the hard curves of his face. “I do love you. I’ve always loved you. Every single moment since I met you. Even when we were apart.”
“Did you, Cruz? Did you really even love me then?”
He touched her nose with his finger and cleared his throat, which he always did when he recited a favorite poem.
“i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i  am never without it (anywhere I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling) i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)”
Molly’s eyes burned. “I melt when you recite love poetry, Professor Cruz. I hope you don’t do in class; all those cute girls will be trying to jump your bones.”
“I only recite for you, chica. I read e.e. cummings when I was recovering in the hospital. He brought you back to me.”
“Oh please,” she whispered. “Let’s not talk about those terrible times.”
“Why? They don’t matter now, they hardly mattered then. Once we got back together, I mean, the past was gone.”
“The past is never gone. It’s on Facebook and Entertainment Tonight.”
“No one looks at those things.”
That made her laugh, as he had hoped it would.
“Right. No one.” Molly embraced him, the sheets silky smooth, while Cruz was warm and hard, and then rolled onto her other side.
@GoddessFish VBT - Don't Say No by Naomi Bellina
Today I'm joined by Naomi Bellina, author of Don't Say No.  So what does Naomi do when she's not writing?
I'm so glad you asked! Even though I'm not able to write as much as I'd like, I spend a lot of time thinking about writing or about things to do with writing. Here are a few ways I occupy my time when I'm not actually sitting at my keyboard typing furiously.
  1. I eavesdrop on strangers. You know when you're talking to someone else or on your phone, and someone is nearby, close enough to hear you, but they look like they're reading or playing on their phone and anyway, polite people don't listen to other people's conversation, so you ignore them. Yeah, that's me, and I'm all over that discussion you're having about your sister-in-law's date with her boss. Gathering material, taking mental notes. Yep.
  2. I get you to tell me juicy stories. If I even get a whiff of an interesting tale, I'll sweet talk the details right out of you before you know what happened. When you say "Oh, I really shouldn't talk about that", it's like catnip to me. I must have it. Don't worry, names are always changed to protect the innocent, and the guilty too.
  3. I read obsessively whenever I can. Sadly, it's not often enough, but whenever I'm not driving, working, or doing another chore that requires my full attention, I find something to peruse. If a cereal box is in front of me while I chomp breakfast, I read it. Standing in the grocery store checkout line, I'm thumbing through a magazine. At stop lights, if I'm not busy putting on my makeup, I've got my phone in my hand, reading something or other.
  4. I try not to get run over by cars. Walking helps me think but sometimes I get a little too involved in my thoughts and cross the road, totally oblivious to what's going on around me. Thankfully, I've managed to stay in one piece so far.
  5. Whenever I can, I go for a ride on the back of my honey's motorcycle and let the wind whip over me. It's a great place to be ponder ideas and I've worked out some tricky plot points on that Harley.
I'd like to say I get to spend hours every day at my keyboard but sadly, I do have to work, shop, cook, clean (not so much that last one), so I do live a relatively normal life. Sort of. I've made it my goal to always make the fun choice and seek adventure whenever possible.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy Don't Say No.
The deets...
Mixing business with pleasure has never been so much fun.
Amber’s life sucks. Her ex got her thrown out of college, then fired from her job. When she’s hired for a mystery shopping assignment, she hopes this is exactly what she needs to kick-start her life and get her back on track.
Jaeger is all business when he hires Amber to check out the spa he’s purchasing. If she can help him prove that the venture will be a success, then he can build his own future, not the one his family has mapped out for him. Becoming attracted to his sexy spy isn’t part of the plan.
Amber can’t see how she fits into Jaeger’s world, and he’s too uptight to ever fit into hers. Circumstances bring them together, in bed and out, but when a secret from his upper-class life is revealed, Amber must decide if she can trust him. Or is her life going down in flames all over again?
A Sneak peek inside...
She reached across the table and pinched his cheek. He caught her hand and held it. A little zing went up her arm at the touch. He had a nice, firm grip, and she enjoyed the sensation of his skin on hers.
“Thank you for doing this.” He didn’t let go of her hand, looking intently into her eyes.” It really is a good idea, and I know you're going to help us out a lot.”
“Well hell, thank you for hiring me. I'm actually kind of having fun,” she said, breaking his stare but not pulling her hand away.  The zing turned into a tingle that moved down her body, all the way to her toes.
He rubbed his thumb along the skin. “Such soft hands. Don't let them work you too hard, and make sure to wear gloves.”
As if he suddenly realized he was caressing her in the middle of a diner, Jaeger let her go.
They both bent their heads over their menus, though by now Amber almost had it memorized. A small smile crept to her lips. A little hand-holding was an unexpectedly nice way to start the day.
Who is Naomi Bellina...?
I love spas! Even as an employee at several, I've always enjoyed the relaxing, pampering atmosphere in a place that's designed to be all about feeling good. This book is a work of fiction and most of the craziness that went on at Bella Sun doesn't really happen at spas. Mostly. I like to think there's always a romance or two going on behind the scenes. I've also been a mystery shopper, though I never received spa treatments on any of my assignments. Some girls have all the luck!
I hope this book encouraged you to not only search for your own true love, but to follow your dreams, no matter how many setbacks you encounter.
@GoddessFish Book Tour & Giveaway - Intensity by CC Koen @authorcckoen
The Deets...
What would you do to improve your life?
Twenty-one-year-old Serena Thomas is faced with a tough decision. Unable to get ahead of debt and loneliness since her grandmother’s death she finds a new job, placing the sheltered virgin in an underground escort business. She tells herself it’s just a temporary life choice, but destiny has a different plan. She meets a mysterious and gorgeous man, who happens to be her new boss. Will Serena fit in or will she be left all alone again?
Lincoln (aka: Linc) Jefferson has an unusual life. He established The Lounge, an exclusive escort club for very personal reasons. A place where the women say who, when, and what type of sex they’re willing to have. The escorts possess all the power and the money. It’s a business Linc guards at all costs. Trying to maintain the secrecy is a constant challenge and one that’s tested when he enters into a relationship with Serena. She tempts him unlike any woman, even though he’s surrounded by beauty on a daily basis. The more time they spend together the harder it is for him to keep his secrets. Will Serena stand by his side or will she abandon him?
Sparks and passion fly, taking these two on a journey neither could have expected.
A Sneak Peek Inside...
He yanked me up from my seat and launched his lips on mine so fast the contact zapped me with a thousand volts. His strokes, bold at first, lightened to soft, tender kisses almost as if he was asking permission to enter—to taste.
The heat from his hands, holding my upper arms, seared me.
My fists clenched and unclenched over and over at my sides.
Touch him? Don’t touch him?
Unable to deny myself, I moved closer, aligning my body with his. My hands gravitated of their own volition, melting to his tight abs and drifting upward, over his chest and up to his neck, where I held on for the ride.
His loud groan rumbled across my breasts, and his firm arms wound around my back, crushing me against him.
For the first time in my life, I surrendered and parted my lips, ready to welcome him in. Instead of tongues diving toward one another, Linc stilled and clamped his mouth shut. As I started to step away, he clenched my hips, holding me in place. He pressed his forehead to mine and slammed his eyes closed.
Kiss me, please.
@GoddessFish Book Tour - All of Me by Heatherly Bell
Guest Post by Heathery Bell
Hi everyone!
My name is Ivey Lancaster and I’m happy to be here today. I’m not exactly sure why I’m here or what I’m supposed to do, but when Heatherly asked if I’d dropped by— well, how could I say “no”?
By the way, I may have to run out of here quite suddenly because my Aunt Lucy has a broken leg. You would think she’s lost her leg the way she behaves. She can’t do the simplest of tasks, and I’ve been waiting on her since I got back into town. I’m a midwife by trade, but it’s in my nature to take care of people and fix things. So when Aunt Lucy asked me to come back to town and help her out for a few weeks, I couldn’t say “no”. All right, if I’m being honest it’s just hard for me to say “no” period.
That inability to say “no” to a certain man (my fiancé) got me into a bit of a jam a few years ago. Oh, everything’s okay now. Don’t worry! Well, all right maybe “okay” is overstating things a bit. Aunt Lucy thinks I should tell my ex-fiancé, Jeff Garner, why I left town so suddenly five years ago. Not that I think it’s any of her business what I do, but she has an opinion and I’m usually forced to hear it.
But I really don’t see the point.
You see, I recently went for an interview at the local hospital. They’re trying to bring a midwife program there, so that women in labor have more choice. I think it’s a great idea, but apparently some of the doctors disagree. So while I thought I had the job at the hospital, it turns out the medical director, Lillian, wants me to work with one of the residents to put together an informed opinion the Board can consider next month. No big deal, right?
It is for me. But as mentioned earlier, it’s hard to say “no” when someone needs me, and Lillian does need me. So before I realized what I’d done, my feet had followed her into a conference room to meet the resident I’d be working with. Imagine my shock when I walked into the room to find my ex-fiancé there, like he had every right! Seriously, how am I supposed to work with the man and pretend everything’s fine? You would think Aunt Lucy would have warned me he’d taken a position at the hospital in town, but no!
I didn’t say anything to Lillian then, but tomorrow morning bright and early I’m going to tell her that I can’t do it. It’s too hard to look at him. It hurts too much. He doesn’t know why I left, and that hurts even worse.
But I can’t work with him. Can I?
The Deets...
What would you do for a second chance with your first love?
Welcome to wine country and the small town of Starlight Hill, California, where the wine flows freely and so does the gossip.
The town has never quite forgiven Ivey Lancaster for leaving their favorite son, Dr. Jeff Garner, when she met a man on an online dating site. But the real truth of her absence is something Ivey doesn't want anyone to know.
When a sudden change of plans forces Ivey to work with her hunky ex, she must keep it professional or risk her heart all over again.
Sneak Peek inside...
Jeff sensed an opening and he proceeded to drive the proverbial Mac truck through it. “The best thing you and I can do is show everyone in town that we’re getting along. That we’re friends again.”
“Yeah. We better get the word out.”
He nodded. “Having dinner with me might help too.”
She whipped her head around so fast he worried about whiplash for a minute. “You and me? Not for real. That can’t happen. We’re not going there again.”
“Going where?” Yep, he was going to do this. Watch her walk right into his trap.
“Making love. Getting back together. Do I have spell it out for you?”
“Wow,” he said. “I’m flattered. But I was talking about dinner. You and your one-track mind.”
Suddenly, absolute quiet from the passenger seat. But as his luck would have it, not for long. “I caught you staring at my boobs. Don’t try to lie to me now.”
“I’m a man, Ivey, and right now you’re a wet-t-shirt-contest dream.”
“Don’t you dare stare at my boobs!”
He grinned. “Try and stop me.”
She turned to him, the light in her eyes that made him a goner. “We? Does that mean I’ve convinced you, Dr. Garner?”
He couldn’t help but grin. “Congratulations. I think we should make our recommendation that the board hire a staff of midwives and let them decide.”
She stared out the window. “I don’t know.”
Who is Heatherly Bell?
When early onset stage fright dashed dreams of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame status, Heatherly Bell tackled her first book in 2010, and now the people and voices that occupy her head refuse to leave.
She no longer sings unless you count randomly bursting into song to annoy her children (and the dogs).
Heatherly lives in northern California with her family, including two beagles, one who can say ‘hello’ and the other who can feel a pea through several pillows.
