#FridayReads - Cupids Way by Joanne Phillips

My Fabulous author friend Joanne Phillips has a new release OUT TODAY! http://smarturl.it/ifgi1x

“When Evie Stone’s grandparents enlist her help to save their home in Cupid’s Way, Evie is happy to oblige. On the cusp of her thirties, and still disappointingly single, Evie’s so-called dream job with a firm of architects has been driving her crazy for months. What she needs, even more than a new man, is a challenge.

But saving Cupid’s Way won’t be easy. A perfectly preserved Victorian terrace, surrounded by modern estates and retail parks, the street is a proud oasis of quirky characters, cobbled pathways and communal gardens. Unfortunately, it also sits on prime development land worth millions.

Dynamite Construction have the deal in the bag, and soon the residents of Cupid’s Way will be forced to sell up and ship out – CEO Michael Andrews, charismatic and super-successful, has certainly never let sentimentality get in the way of business. At least, he hadn’t until he met Evie Stone.”

Joanne Phillips lives in rural Shropshire with her husband and young daughter. She’s the author of romantic comedies Can’t Live Without andThe Family Trap, and the Flora Lively series of mysteries. Can’t Live Without was an Amazon top 20 bestseller in 2012 and her books regularly appear on category bestseller lists. Before becoming a writer, Joanne had jobs as diverse as hairdresser, air hostess and librarian, but now divides her time between writing and finding creative ways to avoid housework. She’s a fan of super-dark chocolate, iced coffee and Masterchef. Joanne blogs about writing and publishing at www.writersjourney.co.uk

The Rebel Cowboy's Quadruplets by Tina Leonard

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Tina will be awarding a $25 Amazon GC to TWO randomly drawn commenters during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour. Remember, the more stops you visit and comment, the better your chances to win.

REBEL WITH A CAUSE?

Justin Morant can't believe he answered an online dating ad! Turns out, beautiful Mackenzie Hawthorne is looking for a ranch foreman, not a husband. Good thing, because marriage isn't in the injured bull rider's future. Justin is happy to take up the cause of saving the Hanging H ranch—and then there's the bonus of playing stand-in father to the sexy single mom's four angelic newborns.

Mackenzie doesn't know what miracle brought Justin to Bridesmaids Creek, Texas, but she'd be a fool to fall for the hunky cowboy who wears his rebel status like a badge of honor. Justin's a natural with her daughters and a whiz at ranching…yet one day she knows he's going to gallop off into the sunset. Unless, of course, the marriage-minded townspeople get their hands on him!

Now enjoy an excerpt:

“You’ve got the strangest look on your face,” Ty said as Justin returned his gaze to Mackenzie. He just couldn’t seem to get enough of looking at her. “I’d say you have indigestion, except you’re smiling.”

Justin relaxed his mouth so the smile would disappear. He had been smiling, because his muscles ached a bit. Like he’d been smiling a long time—watching Mackenzie walk and chatter with some friends who came over to talk to her.

“I’m not smiling, but I may have indigestion.”

Ty snorted. “I see what’s going on here.”

“Do you.” He made the comment as flat as possible. His buddy’s opinion didn’t really matter. Ty had no idea what was going on, because Justin had no idea.

“You’re tired,” Ty said. “Being around those babies and that falling-down farm has worn you out. You better hit the road with me. You’ll be back to your old self in no time.”

“What was my old self?”

Ty put his hat on, prepared to leave, which was fine with Justin. Then he could go back to surreptitiously staring at Mackenzie. “Grumpy, cranky, annoying.”

Justin grunted. “Thought that was you.”

“Not me.” He peered at Justin. “I really hope this wasn’t too much for you, old buddy. I didn’t mean to bring you down. Figured some time in a small town with a real job would do you good.”

Justin put his hat on, too, because if he didn’t get out of there, people were going to notice that he couldn’t stop staring at his beautiful boss. “That’s what you get for thinking. See you at the house. Don’t get there too soon. I’m taking the boss lady shopping.”

Ty stared at him, stunned. “What’s happened to you?” he whispered. “You’re a shadow of your former self!”

Well, that was a question he didn’t care to ponder too much. Mackenzie came to stand beside him, smiling up into his face, and his poor stupid heart felt like it took the final dive into his stomach.

What had happened to him indeed.

Mackenzie and four babies were happening to him, and they were going to require a great deal of consideration. This was a bad idea, this tiny woman with the big eyes and her sweet family. A very bad idea, because he wasn’t a family man; he wasn’t a staying man.

“You ready?” he asked Mackenzie, and she nodded.

“If you’re not going to chicken out,” she teased.

Oh, he might. He was thinking about it. Thinking about it hard.

But something told him he probably wouldn’t.

A Day in the Life of Terri Herman-Ponce

A Day in the Life of Terri Herman-Ponce

You know, I sat at my laptop staring at my screen, wondering what I could possibly write about my typical day. In truth, many of the things I do aren’t different from what most other people do. I have a day job, get up for work (okay, maybe earlier than many of you) and commute 4 hours round trip each day (okay, maybe longer than many of you), and I also manage a family, cook, do laundry, run errands…and somewhere in the middle of all of that, find time to write. And research. And market. And edit…

So I guess you’d say that my typical day is very busy.

But I’ll tell you something else. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m one of those people who thrive on moving. Oh yes, I adore relaxation, too (along with meditation), but I like being active. I crave it. Maybe it’s the creative side of me that needs this activity, because many times when I’m moving I get inspired with writing. When I’m running outside and listening to music, a song can come on that will spark an image or scene in my head that begs to be written. When I’m ironing (something I hate to do) and watching a movie (something that makes the hate less painful), a segment of dialogue can inspire a conversation for my latest novel.

And then there are days where I seem to tune into everything. The murmur of other people’s conversations, for example. The clipped, fluttering sound that leaves make when a gust of wind blows through. The sumptuous scent of coconut body lotion at the beach. The bzzz bzzz bzzz of a puffy bumblebee as it dances from flower to flower. The feel of fine silk in my hands, like a wispy, warm breeze sifting through my fingers.

Every day life, for me, is a journey. An adventure. Something to be explored. I can truly say that I can watch the heavens with as much awe as I can a mother who coddles her newborn, and be inspired by both. Nothing is sacred to me as a writer, and for very good reason. I just can’t stop my curiosity, my need to feel and sense everything that surrounds me.

So a day in the life of Terri Herman-Ponce? It’s busy, yes, but it’s one that’s made up of appreciating the little things—for a sense of peace, and for some rock-solid storytelling.

What about you? What is your day like? Full of inspiration? Too little time and too much to do? Or a balance in between? I’d love to know.

Thank you for having me here today! I hope to make some new acquaintances, and maybe share some of the things that inspire your day, too.

The deets...

Everyone wants something.

Even if it belongs to someone else.

And some will destroy the very thing they want, just so no one else can have it.

Professional soldier David Bellotti's latest mission seems simple: steal the key card to a drug lord's compound so the empire can be infiltrated and destroyed. But when David discovers evidence of his lover Lottie’s possible infidelity, his mission turns personal. He searches for answers others would kill to keep buried and discovers a link to the past he's been trying hard to ignore.

Ancient lives, twelve thousand year old secrets, murder, and primal instincts lead David on a journey through past lives and present danger—all to save the woman he loves.

Find your way back through history, when hunter-gatherers roamed and David and Lottie's past incarnations began. The Reading Café calls Covet, Book Two of the Past Life Series, "An amazing and fascinating storyline of suspense, mystery, betrayal, hatred and love."

A Sneak Peek Inside....

I blew out the entrance and took off, hustling through the panicked crowd. Another gun fired and police sirens sounded in the distance. I made a left down a small street then a right into an alley, jumping a garbage can, hurtling over a short wall, and disappearing into the neighborhood. If Galen didn't make it to our backup rendezvous point, I had to get to the safe house and that was five miles away. And right now, I had no idea if Galen and Lady in Blue were still alive.

I skidded past a corner, wondering if I should take the chance and call an alert into HQ, when I heard screeching tires. I backed up, pressed myself against a wall, and realized who it was. Galen in a Toyota. He threw open the passenger door and I jumped in, slamming the door shut as Galen jammed the gas pedal.

“You get it?” he asked, swerving through a turn then dropping our speed so we didn’t draw attention.

I nodded. “Is Lady in Blue okay?”

Galen hugged another turn. “She will be. She came to when the gunshots were fired.”

I blew out a sigh of relief. It wasn't the first time a distraction job had taken a bad turn, but it was still a worry. “And the cops?”

“All at the nightclub. But we will have to lose the car.” He used his cell phone and dialed our contact, making arrangements for cleanup.

I pulled out Sahin’s wallet and lifted the keycard. “Payday,” I said, holding it up.

“Mommie Dearest says we should leave the wallet and card with the car.” Galen disconnected the call. “They will pick it all up at the Starbucks near the safe house in ten minutes.”

I drew in a breath and held it, forcing my heart and my lungs to calm down. Another close call. I loved this stuff.

“You love this stuff way too much,” Galen said, glancing my way.

I had known Galen all of three months, and he was far too good at reading my mind already. I was trying to get my head wrapped around the fact that we were connected in a way that didn't make sense, but that didn't mean I had to like it. Ignoring him, I sank into the seat, letting the adrenalin wear off.

“Let’s see what else we’ve got on this guy.” Inside his wallet I found a black American Express, a MasterCard, and over five thousand Euros in the billfold. A picture was tucked in with his identification. I pulled it out and held it up to catch the light from passing street lamps.

It was a photo of the love of my life kissing another man.

Who is Ponce?

Terri looks for any opportunity to make stuff up. She thinks anything that can’t so easily be explained is worth an extra look and often makes a great story. She loves red wine, scotch, sunrises, Ancient Egypt, the beach—and a host of other stuff that would take too much real estate to talk about. The youngest of five children, Terri lives with her husband and son on Long Island. And, in her next life, if she hasn’t moved on to somewhere else, she wants to be an astronomer. Terri’s fascinated with the night skies almost as much as she’s fascinated with ancient Egypt.

@GoddessFish Book Blast and Giveaway - On Her Watch by Rie Warren @RieWrites

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Rie will be awarding a Kindle format ebook of In His Command, In His Sights, and On Her Watch plus a Don't Tell series swag bag to a randomly drawn winner via the Rafflecopter at the end of this post during the tour (swag bag is US ONLY). Remember, the more stops you visit and comment, the better your chances to win.

The year is 2071 and all hell has broken loose. As the government tries to control the territories that were once the United States, an armed rebellion erupts . . .

AWOL from her military post, Lieutenant Liz Grant will do anything for the rebels she now calls friends. Her latest mission: return to the Beta Corps army and obtain classified information that could turn the battle in the revolutionaries’ favor. There’s only one problem: Commander Linc Cutler.

Strong, coldly handsome, and always in control, Linc is perplexed by the beautiful soldier brought in for questioning. He doesn’t know if he believes her explanation for why she went missing. He only knows his intense sexual desire for her cannot be denied.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

The troopers backed away from me, out of the office, closing the door behind them. I watched Linc, releasing a smile. His guards had left me fully armed and operational with my two babes, chrome Desert Eagle 44 mag dates from hell, holstered on my hips. Seeing him unarmed—hands pressed behind his back--made me think he might be as foolhardy as the Freelanders, but I doubted it.

I didn’t have to doubt for long.

Sharp jaw, full lips, and his arrogant nose showed in profile when he calmly mentioned, “If you even think about going for your sidearms, you’ll be dead before you make a move, Lieutenant Grant.”

My gurgled laugh hurt my bruised ribs. “I might be willing to test that theory.”

Movements fast and liquid, he came at me and cornered me under one of the cameras. Hands braced on either side of me, Linc’s breath brushed across my temple. “You’re in no position to test me, Liz.”

Hot restraint rolled off him. Not a single muscle moved from the breadth of his chest held a scant space from my breasts to his rugged shoulders straining the seams of his shirt.

My gaze flashed to his, the burning blue brightness unraveling my protective shell. No man had ever affected me like this. My short fingernails tapped the holstered Eagles in warning. A warning that had no effect on Linc as his breath dragged deeper, filling out his chest until it came flush to mine.

A Yankee transplant via the UK and other wild journeys, Rie happily landed in Charleston, South Carolina, with her English artisan husband and their two small daughters--one an aspiring diva, the other a future punk rocker. After earning her degree in Fine Arts, Rie promptly gave up paintbrushes and canvas for paper and pen (because she decided being a writer was equally as good an idea as being an artist, of course it was). That was fifteen years ago, her writing career started! With a manuscript of super epic proportions! Safely stored under a lace doily in a filing cabinet. Possibly in England . . .

Since then she's done this and that, here and there, usually in the nonprofit arena, until she returned to her dream of being a writer. Even though Rie basks in the glorious southern sunshine as often as she can, she's mostly a nocturnal creature adjourning to her writer's atelier (spare bedroom) in search of her next devious plot twist or delicious passionate tryst.

No matter what genre or gender pairing she's writing, she combines a sexy southern edge with humor and heart--and a taste of darkness.

@GoddessFish Book Blitz - Formula for Love by @VikiLynRomance

The Deets...

Kenneth Hailey, an uptight conservative mathematician, believes he's in control. After all, every problem can be solved in a deliberate and logical manner. Even love. When his fiancée dumps him for his best friend, he leaves Manhattan for the West Coast. What better place to forget his past. It's 1967, and San Francisco is the place to turn on, tune in, and drop out.

But is he ready for Rose Red?

Rose Red, a free-spirited flower child, challenges Kenneth, thrusting him into her world of love-ins, protest rallies, and rock concerts. Kenneth finds himself falling down a rabbit hole, hanging on for dear life.

Old habits die hard, and he retreats, but Rose Red has other plans for him.

Priscilla had been his last and only girlfriend. Sure, he’d dated and slept with a few girls before her, but she was the first who’d understood him. She respected his need for boundaries and his need to work out mathematical theories in his head. Distractions cursed his very existence. But in the end she had left him.

“So you broke up with your girlfriend.”

Kenneth stabbed at his sprouts and shoved a bunch in his mouth. He coughed them into his napkin, rolled it up, and stuffed it under the rim of his plate. “I said a change, not a breakup.”

“But you did leave because of a girl.”

What was with this chick? She had an uncanny way of seeking out the truth. “I’m over her.”

“Then I say, ‘love the one you’re with.’”

His generation’s answer to everything. Well, not for him. “What’s with you? You throw yourself at every guy you meet on the street. That’s not love.”

“I met you at the park, not on the street. And what’s wrong with sharing a little love? The world needs more of it.”

“Sex isn’t love.”

Rose picked up her fork and pointed it at Kenneth. “Maybe not for you.”

“You talk of me not allowing love in, but it seems to me you’re as bad. So you sleep with a bunch of guys. That’s not letting in love.”

Hard eyes stared at him. Rose tapped the rim of the plate with the tines. “I do know the difference between love and sex, but why be lonely? To share the night with someone is a beautiful experience.”

Mathematics did not allow for frivolous assumptions Rose spouted so freely. Arguing with Rose was pointless. Stubborn, with that russet hair and bright eyes, a real nut case—yet what she said about choosing to love someone instead of being lonely held some truth for Kenneth. He was lonely. And feeling like this, maybe he would settle for any girl to keep him warm at night.

Who is Viki Lyn...?

There’s nothing better than reading a good book over an espresso, watching a movie, trying out a new restaurant with close friends or laughing hysterically with my sisters. Some of my favorite movies reveal the truth, that I am a sentimental girl at heart: When Harry Met Sally, Something's Gotta Give, Latter Days, Lord of the Rings, Sense and Sensibility and North and South (the BBC series).

What inspires me - the reality that romance between lovers is a hope more than a guarantee. My stories are an eclectic mix of contemporary and paranormal, but it is always romance that drives the story to its final happily-ever-after.
